The glass folding partition shall be equipped with an optical sensor, which shall cut power to the lifting equipment if an object or person passes between the emitter(s) and receiver(s). Regular operation of the glass folding partition shall resume once the key switch has been released and the direction of the wall has been reversed and the obstruction removed.

As a general rule no switches, alarms, thermostats, doorframes, etc. should be placed on the fixed walls or columns directly below the pocket. If it is absolutely necessary then that the movable glass wall system should be flush mounted and never located in the area on the fixed wall occupied by the wall in its closed or down position.

The moving glass wall system shall be opened and closed using a spring return, 3 position key switch. Turning the key from the “off” position shall cause the wall to move in the designated direction “up” or “down”. When hand pressure is removed, the movable glass wall system shall immediately stop. As a normal part of the operation, it shall be possible to partially open (or close) the wall, stop it and then reverse the operation. There shall be 2 key switches per operable wall, on either side of the axis of the wall.

The load is static and requires less than a movable glass wall system because the load does not shift to one end of the building when stored and does not require pockets for storage in the wall.

The glass wall systems shall employ an electromagnetic type of brake that shall activate firmly, without hesitation, when power is lost to the system. This brake shall have a minimum retarding torque rating equal to 200% of the power drive full load torque. A manual break release lever is supplied on the motor. The glass wall systems shall employ a dynamic brake, distinct and separate from the brake above, in order to lower the wall at a controlled speed of no more than approximately 150% of the normal down speed, in the case of a catastrophic failure in the power train. Alternately, the glass wall systems shall employ a brake, distinct and separate from the brakes above, in order to completely halt the downward motion of the wall in the case of a catastrophic failure in the power train.

Before commencing with the installation of Skyfold Mirage glass walls systems, please submit the manufacturer’s technical data for each type of glass wall systems specified herein.

Do also submit shop drawings showing complete layout of glass wall systems based on field verified dimensions. The drawings shall include dimensional relationship to adjoining work. Include details indicating materials, finishes, and tolerances, methods of attachment to building steel and electrical requirements. Please also submit certified test reports evidencing compliance to acoustical STC requirements as specified.

Skyfold is an acoustical wall that is hard, rigid and flat in its down
position. When not in use, however, it folds vertically for storage in
the ceiling. Developed as a modular system, it consists of a grid of
rectangular acoustical panels.

A completely functioning operable wall, tested in full accordance and
compliance with ASTM E90-90 shall achieve a Laboratory Sound
Transmission Class acoustical rating of not less than 51. The acoustical
panels, when tested in accordance with the ASTM E90-90 protocol, shall
achieve a Laboratory Sound Transmission Class STC rating of not less
than 54.

Each acoustical rating panel shall be individually removable using only
a screw driver. No special tools or equipment shall be required. The removal of a single acoustic panel shall not affect, dislocate or cause the
removal of any adjacent panels or other acoustical rating panels. The operable wall shall be mechanically operable with a few of the acoustic rating panels removed from one, or both sides of the operable wall.

When the gym divider is being lowered (closed) it shall come automatically to rest once it has reached the fully down (closed) position. Opposedly, When the gym divider is being lifted (opened) it shall come automatically to rest once it has reached the fully up (open) position.

The gym dividers shall open and close at a constant nominal speed of
approximately 5 to 10 vertical feet per minute (1.5. to 3 metres per
minute).
