December 8, 2011 : Reference: Specifications Requesting Seismic Qualification Certificates for Skyfold Custom Powerlift Partitions

Dear Sir/Madame,

With respect to specifications requesting seismic qualification certificates or seismic performance data the following standards apply:

  • These standards apply to buildings and other structures for which loads are specified.
  • These standards do not specify design loads or test requirements for operable partitions.
  • Skyfold partitions fall under the specialty building products category.
  • Skyfold’s partitions hang from fixed supports connected to the overhead structure. Skyfold exerts fixed point loads on the overhead support structure.
  • Skyfold’s panels may be in their “DOWN” (extended or closed) position, or in their “UP” (stacked or open) position. The same vertical load is exerted regardless of the position of the Skyfold partition.
  • Skyfold partitions are not supported by the floor.
  • Skyfold’s full load is supported entirely by the structure above, not the floor.
  • Skyfold does not support the overhead structure or any other building component.
  • The architect/structural engineer typically specifies a suitable building support structure in accordance with the above standards and the Skyfold loads provided by Skyfold.
  • It is the responsibility of the structural engineers to design the overhead support structure ensuring it can withstand the loads associated with the Skyfold partition both during normal conditions and in the event of a seismic occurrence.
  • A seismic certificate can be provided on a job-by-job basis but at a cost and it will address only the connection between Skyfold’s support plate and the support structure.

For additional information please contact our sales department.

Thank you.

November 3, 2011 : Dealer Survey

Good day,

As most of you are already aware, we have designed a Customer Survey Questionnaire intended for all Project Managers. This survey can be found on the Dealer Portal. It is also e-mailed to each Project Manager upon the completion of a project. more... Please note, however, to accurately complete this form they will need assistance from their Sales Department. In an effort to entice people to complete this form, we are offering a $500.00 prize. Each completed survey will be entitled to one entry in the draw. The more entries a Project Manager makes, the better his/her chances are at winning!! The draw will take place on September 3, 2012.

We welcome all feedback - both positive and negative.

Kind regards,

September 1, 2011 : Lampre Laminite white marking steel

Good Day,

Skyfold included the Laminite white marking steel surface as manufactured by Lampre as our standard marker board surface back in September 2009. The decision to use this finish was based on product quality. It has recently come to our attention that in high lit areas or in cases where the entire Skyfold wall is finished with Laminite, more... there is a risk that minor imperfections may be visible. Once the surface material is bonded to our panels, blemishes in the steel surface, even though they are minor, may be noticeable.

As with all high gloss finishes, this is indigenous to the product and not a defect in the material or our manufacturing process.

Attached please find a letter from the manufacturer which is self-explanatory. We will continue to use this product as one of our standard finishes, but kindly advise the customer of the potential risk associated with using this finish.
Aestetical disclaimer
